March 24th: Spring is Here
It's late March and the snow is beginning to disappear. It's a good time to think about getting
skis serviced before storing them for the summer. Ultratune will continue to grind skis through the summer, but most likely
the work will be done bi-weekly rather than weekly.
Look for another Ultratune Newsletter in the next week or so. It'll have a review of some new waxes and info on
skis available from pre-season picks. Hopefully done before the end of March!

A Great Gift For Skiers!
Ultratune has some copies of the coffee table book Setting First Tracks available for sale for $55. It's a history of
the Madshus ski company, and a great read for anyone passionate about cross-country skiing. Here's a review of the book that was in our
Jan '07 newsletter: Setting First Tracks.

Give it a try
Our new 615b performs in colder conditions!.
The 0.02mm depth grind with a fine interference pattern, 615b,
is running well on machine groomed and new snow conditions in medium humidity at low to medium temps.
Our unique half-depth grinds, the MVL & MVX continue to perform.
The 0.02mm depth linear grind MVL
and cross-grind MVX are less grabby than the 0.04mm depth
grinds, and run well on machine groomed and new snow conditions in medium humidity.
See the Grind Menu.

Our MVX was our most popular grind for skate skis
during the 05/06, 06/07, and 07/08 seasons. Test data shows this grind to be fast
in a broad range of snow conditions. The MVX has a unique layered structure
with a visible angled interference pattern that appears aggressive, but because of the shallow 0.02mm
depth, it provides smooth, free-running glide.
Our MVL is a fine linear structure that runs well on both classic and skate skis. Tests
show this grind to be fast in a range of snow conditions, but excelling
when humidity is higher (as compared to the XC02). The MVL has 24
lines/cm (same as the XC02), but cuts at 0.02mm depth, with no overgrind
polishing stage.
The XC02 grind continues to be very reliably fast for classic and
skate skis. Testing continually shows
this grind to be extremely free-running in all sharp, dryer snows,
as high as -2 C. The XC02 has a polishing overgrind step that smooths
the "peaks" on the structure which results in very smooth
glide.
Hotbox Service
Give our Hotbox service a try: there is no better way to saturate
your skis with paraffin after grinding, whether your skis are new
or old. This ensures that the base will be better able to retain subsequent
layers of wax.
New Skis from Ultratune
Nordic Ultratune is again offering a limited number
of hand-picked race-ready skate and classic skis for sale.
For the 07/08 season we'll be offering skis from Rossignol and Madshus.
All of these skis are flex tested, and selected
to match the skier's needs.
The skis include stone grinding of your choice, and hotbox service.

Flex Analysis

Ski Flex Testing: We've been using our precision flex tester since
April of '05. We can provide a complete flex analysis, with graphs
of pocket length vs. pressure, and camber height vs. pressure. Click
